It Works – Shakes, Wraps, Vitamins and More

It Works Global is an amazing company with a full line of products… that WORK!!  (hence the name) :)

If you are online at all these days I am sure you have seen tons of people promoting the It Works products.  Seems like they are popping up all over the place.  Now, ask yourself.. why?   Well that is because the company offers a great product for customer, and a great business opp for business minded folk.

I myself have used the It Works wraps for about 3 years now.  No, I don’t have a ton of weight to lose, but like to use them a couple times a month to firm up my mid section.

Rich Chcolate Ultimate ProFIT Brownies


Rich Chocolate Ultimate ProFIT Brownies!

-1 (16 ounce) jar creamy raosted almond butter
  -2 eggs
-1 ¼ cups agave nectar
-1 tbsp vanilla extract
-1/2 tsp sea salt
-1 tsp baking soda
-1 cup dark chocolate chips
-4 scoops (8 tbsp) Rich Chocolate Ultimate ProFIT

1. Preheat oven to 325°
2. In a large bowl, blend almond butter until smooth with a hand blender
3. Blend in eggs, then blend in agave and vanilla
4. Blend in Ultimate ProFIT, salt and baking soda
5. Fold in chocolate chips
6. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish and pour batter into dish
7. Bake at 325° for 35-40 minutes

Serves 24 brownies

Get Your Daily Fruits and Veggies

It is no big secret that we all need to fuel our bodies to keep things running smoothly.  But, most of us just don’t give our bodies what they need for many reasons.  Life is busy, and things just get put by the wayside.. like our health.

We also learned in school how important getting fruits and veggies daily is. Remember, the Eat 5 a Day rule?   Well as adults and as parents we not only have to keep that in mind for our own health but also for our kids health.

Here are some great ways to incorporate the Eat 5 a Day rule.

Keep apples, oranges, pears and bananas nearby for easy snacking.

Add bell peppers, broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, or mushrooms to your eggs. (scrambeled or omelets).

Mix fresh fruit with your yogurt along with granola.

Top a piece of toast (whole grain) with peanut butter and sliced bananas.

Add blueberries or raspberries into your muffins or pancake batter.  Or add them on top of pancakes or french toast.

Pizza lovers ~ try a veggie pizza instead.

Fruit wraps are yummy!  Make one using a whole grain wrap, low fat cream cheese and fruit of choice.

Add veggies like green beans, corn, broccoli, or peas into your casserole or pasta dish.  Try to eat more veggies than pasta, and use whole grain pasta.

Make a veggies soup.

Load up your salad with cherry tomatoes, carrots, and cucumbers.

I love to keep a bowl of washed berries in my fridge for snacking.   I am more opt to grab a handful of berries when I open my fridge and see them first, than grabbing something I know I don’t need.

How to Lower Your Cholesterol at Home

High Cholesterol?  Here are some ways to lower it at home.

Your cholesterol levels play a role in whether or not you’ll get heart disease or have a heart attack.  If your cholesterol levels need some improvement then this is a perfect read for you.  Here are some ideas.

Eat more soluble fiber like fruits, veggies, whole-grain cereals, and dried beans.  Research shows that adding 5-10 grams a day of soluble fiber such as psyllium to your diet can reduce your LDL by 5%.

Get at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise 5-7 days a week.  This can help lower your triglyceride level.

Eat as little trans fat as possible.  Things like stick margarine, baked goods, and fried foods (especially those fried in hydrogenated shortening) all have trans fats.

Limit saturated fat, which is shown to raises your cholesterol more than anything else you can eat or drink.  Found in fatty meats, poultry with skin, and whole milk dairy products like cheese and ice cream.

Limit the amount of cholesterol you eat and drink like cutting out things like organ meats, egg yolks and whole milk dairy products.  Consume no more than 200 milligrams of cholesterol a day.

Watch your weight.  Keeping an eye on your weight will help lower your low density lipoprotein (LDL or Bad) cholesterol triglyceride and total cholesterol levels.  It is shown that losing just 10% of your body weight can lower your LDL.

Consider adding plant sterols or stanols into your diet.  Just 2 grams a day can lower your LDL.  It blocks cholesterol from being absorbed into your intestines. Taken around mealtime will help your body not absorb cholesterol from foods.

Yeah, it is easier said than done but with a little knowledge we can all do it.

When we have food cravings it generally isn’t for food that is good for us.  When is the last time you craved broccoli or plain fat free yogurt?  The foods you crave are usually full of sugar, fat, salt, carbs ~ like pizza, chips, cake, cookies, chocolate, ice cream, etc.
These kind of cravings can make staying on track with weight loss goals hard.


Try these tips to help curb your cravings.

1.)  Eat something healthy first ~ if you are not as hungry or filled up on other things you won’t eat as much of the bad food when you have a craving.

2.)  Distract yourself ~ by doing something like taking a walk, talking on the phone, playing with kids or pets, your cravings will usually pass after 20 minutes.

3.) Keep the food you crave out of your house ~ that way when you crave something if it isn’t there you can’t eat it and will replace it with something healthy that you do have in your house.

4.) Chew Gum ~ chewing sugarless gum reduces hunger and cravings for sweet and salty snacks.  Plus, if you are chewing gum you tend to not want to eat as your mouth is already busy.

5.) Portion Control ~ Don’t give up your treats, just be aware of portion control.  Don’t eat the whole candy bar, but allow yourself one square.   Sometimes taking something completely out of your diet or not allowing yourself a treat will make you over eat or lose control when you do have those foods around.

6.) Imagine something ~ Like how good you look in those new jeans or swim suit instead of how much you think you need that bad for you snack.

7.) Get Sleep and Exercise ~ this helps lower the hormone called ghrelin that stimulates appetite.  Lack of sleep can lead to food cravings and overeating.

These are just a few great ways to help you Curb your Cravings.

5 Tips For Keeping Fruits And Veggies Fresh

Having a nice stock of fruits and vegetables at all times is so nice to have, but don’t you hate to have to throw out those nutritious foods when they go bad before you can gobble them up? Don’t throw away those yummy foods (and your money!), learn how to store them properly and you will have a better chance to eat them while they’re still crisp and delicious.

Keep Your Produce Out Of Direct Sunlight

Keeping tomatoes in the sun will strip them of their flavor and texture. The higher temperature will also cause most fruits and vegetables to rot faster. Potatoes will start to sprout if not kept out of the sunlight.

Watch Out For Ethylene

All fruits and vegetables produce a gas called ethylene. This gas helps fruits and vegetables ripen faster. When stored in an airtight bag, the gas produces quicker which causes ripening even faster. To avoid this, store your fruits and vegetables in separate crispers to avoid them cross-contaminating each other with excess ethylene. Also, try poking holes in the bags you store any fruits or veggies, or choose containers like plastic clam shells that let the food breathe.

You Can Always Freeze Your Fruits And Vegetables

You don’t have to go to the store to buy bags of frozen broccoli or strawberries. You can cut up and freeze fresh produce for long-term storage as well. Be sure to wash the produce before freezing it to kill any existing bacteria.

Know How Long Your Produce Will Last For

There are many handy charts available online that will show the ripening cycle for a given fruit or vegetable. You should be able to get this information at the grocery store as well. Knowing that bananas will usually last for seven days if you buy them green and usually for only five days when purchased yellow will help you keep track of your fruits and veggies so you can eat them when they are perfect.

Produce Bags And Water Are Your Friend

Storing asparagus and other herbs in water will keep them fresh longer. Putting them in specialized produce bags will keep all vegetables out of the sunlight and stay at room temperature. These green or black bags can be purchased online or at the grocery store.

It’s not hard to keep your fruits and veggies fresh, you just have to know what to do! Keep them at room temperature or lower, freeze what you don’t plan on using and learn how long a particular food item will last. All of these tricks will save you money while allowing you to enjoy your favorite produce whenever you want it.
